History Among The Trees

On a Friday evening in June, Missouri Conservation Corps gave a presentation at a community event called History Among The Trees. With partnership from Centro Latino, we hosted this event on the corner of Garth and Sexton, in a grove of trees funded by a Love Your Block grant and recently planted by neighbors and volunteers. During this hybrid event, the topics of local history became entangled in forest ecology and public health as participants learned the early history of Sexton Road and of this neighborhood, and the incredible impact that these new trees will have on the neighborhood and its residents. We were joined by neighbors from Ridgeway Neighborhood, and partners from US Fish and Wildlife Service, Boone County One Health, and Centro Latino. After learning about our local history and our new trees, we enjoyed fresh tamales and sparkling conversation at Centro Latino.
A donation to Missouri Conservation Corps during CoMoGives 2025 will help us continue to bring events like this to our community!
