In August Missouri Conservation Corps will be stepping into a new park in Columbia to battle invasive honeysuckle and to restore a native environment. Partially funded by a Love Your Block grant and supported by local neighbors and volunteers, this project will remove invasive honeysuckle along the creeks and streams in Columbia’s Again Park and will restore these areas with native plants and trees later in the fall. We will also restore water quality by removing trash and debris from the watersheds in the park.
On Saturday, August 8th, from 9 a.m. to noon in Again Street Park, Missouri Conservation Corps will be partnering up with engaged neighbors and community members, Volunteer Columbia, Central Missouri Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, Boone County Stormwater, Columbia Parks and Recreation, and members of the Love Your Block committee. This will be our first of several volunteer events in Again Park, and we hope to stage another removal event in Again Park in September. This event is open to volunteers of all ages and skill levels. Missouri Conservation Corps will provide the tools and training before the event begins, and our friends in the neighborhood will provide snacks and cold water for all our volunteers.
Located just south of Worley on Again Street, Again Street Park is a 10-acre park in west central Columbia. Originally conveyed to the City of Columbia by Columbia Public Schools, this beautiful park features sports fields, exercise facilities, playgrounds, and the headwaters of the County House Branch watershed. Come join us on Saturday, August 8th as we work to restore native habitat and water quality in this beloved park in Columbia! We will meet at 9 a.m. at 1200 Again Street to start this event. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle and to dress for the weather and for working in a rugged, brushy environment.
