Monarch Tagging event featured on KOMU 8 News

On Monday, September 21st, Missouri Conservation Corps hosted a Monarch tagging program in Bonnie View Nature Sanctuary. This was the first of two evening programs of this year’s Monarch Journey, a series of programs led by MCC Naturalist Laura Semken that aims to introduce community members of all ages and skill levels to Monarch tagging for migration and behavior research. With every program, Semken also shares ways to support Monarch butterfly and pollinator populations, such as creating pollinator habitats and participating in the Monarch Watch program.

Throughout the event, KOMU News 8 reporters followed along, capturing footage of the the tagging process and interviewing Semken on the importance of community involvement and citizen science. The article and news segment is available online for viewing as “Columbia residents tag monarch butterflies for conservation.”
