Columbia Audubon Society Leads Third Annual Guided Bird Hike in Columbia Kiwanis Park

Missouri Conservation Corps and Columbia Audubon Society teamed up on May 6, 2025 for their third annual guided bird hike in Kiwanis Park.

Missouri Conservation Corps would like to thank the Columbia Audubon Society of Missouri for organizing and leading the third annual guided bird hike in Columbia’s Kiwanis Park in May 2025. This educational bird hike was held on May 6th, during the peak of spring migration, in Kiwanis Park.

Columbia Audubon Society members John Besser, Jim Gast, and Lottie Bushmann helped to guide over 25 participants as we searched for the avian inhabitants of this 20-acre forested park in central Columbia. The species checklist for the hike has been published on eBird, simply search for Kiwanis Park. So far our count for the morning bird hike sits at 88 individual birds, 40 species identified, and 25 eager participants!

The goal of the annual guided bird hike in Kiwanis Park is to determine if the removal of bush honeysuckle and the restoration of a native habitat will lead to greater diversity of bird species in the park.
