Monarch Migration Tagging Workshop

The Boonslick Master Gardeners of Cooper County will host a Monarch Migration Tagging Workshop and Family Day on Saturday, September 12th from 10 AM – 12 PM at the Boonville Katy Depot located at 320 1st St in Boonville. There will be a lot of exciting activities for kids, plus expert advice on pollinator gardening. So bring a lawn chair and support our beautiful monarch population at this free, family-friendly event!

  • Recognition of the importance of monarch conservation in our community

10:20 – 10:45 AM | Pollinator Gardening by Kimberly Ann — Missouri Gardeners & more

  • Learn how pollinator-friendly gardens can help monarchs, bees, and other important pollinators. Kimberly will share practical ideas families can use at home to create a welcoming habitat for pollinators.

10:45 – 11:25 AM | Monarch Tagging Demonstration & Migration Program by Laura Semken — Missouri Conservation Corps

  • Learn how monarch butterflies are tagged for scientific research
  • See a demonstration of the monarch tagging process
  • Discover more about the amazing annual monarch migration
  • Learn how citizen participation helps scientists better understand and protect monarchs

11:25 – 11:45 AM | Monarch Fun & Learning Games!

  • Put your monarch knowledge to the test! Families and children can participate in a fun, interactive monarch-themed game.

11:45 AM – 12:00 PM | Door Prizes & Family Fun

  • Door prizes for attendees
  • Butterfly-themed face painting
  • Visit with fellow monarch and gardening enthusiasts
  • Final questions and closing remarks
