SUMMARY:Guided Bird Hike--Kiwanis Park
DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is once again teaming up with the talented members of the Columbia Audubon Society to host a guided bird hike on Wednesday\, May 8th\, in Columbia’s Kiwanis Park.  We will meet at Thurston Shelter on the east side of the park at 7 a.m. on May 8th to meet CAS member and hike guide John Besser.  We will be looking for birds in the recently improved habitat of 20 acre Kiwanis Park…the hike duration is expected to be two hours.  BYO binoculars.  For more information\, contact Missouri Conservation Corps or Columbia Audubon Society.  This is our second annual bird hike in Kiwanis Park\, and we hope to document even more birds than last year’s hike!

SUMMARY:Garth Nature Area/Proctor Park Work Day Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, April 14th\, 9 a.m.- Noon Parking lot of Garth Nature Area\, 2799 North Garth.  Volunteers will be cutting and pulling invasive honeysuckle using loppers\, hand saws and hand pulling\, treating cut honeysuckle stumps with herbicide\, and performing trail work with COMOTA.\n\nFor the work events in Garth Nature Area and Proctor Park\, we will be using folding saws and loppers to cut much larger honeysuckle that has been growing in that area for a while…we will also be coordinating our work days in Garth and Proctor with members of COMOTA (COMO Trail Association)\, and Beth Kelly will be leading a trail work group during the April 14th work day.\n\nFor the honeysuckle removal work\, Missouri Conservation Corps will provide the tools\, training\, and gloves.  Volunteers are asked to bring their own water bottle and sturdy footwear for outdoor work.  If anyone would like to register for these volunteer work events\, please email Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org. SUMMARY:Volunteer Work Day in Garth Nature Area
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 7th\, Missouri Conservation Corps will host its first volunteer work event in Columbia’s Garth Nature Area.  Our fledgeling event in this north Columbia park will run from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. We will meet in the parking lot of Garth Nature Area\, 2799 North Garth at 2 p.m.  Volunteer work will consist of cutting and pulling invasive honeysuckle using loppers\, hand saws and hand pulling.  Like all of our volunteer events\, Missouri Conservation Corps will provide the tools\, gloves\, training and management.  Volunteers are asked to bring work clothes\, sturdy footwear and a water bottle.  Garth Nature Area is a 52 acre public green space in north Columbia\, and is intersected by Bear Creek and by the Bear Creek Trail.  Future work days in this area will also focus on habitat improvement and trail building in nearby Proctor Park with members and volunteers from Columbia’s COMO Trail Association. \nThose wishing to volunteer at this event are asked to register by emailing MCC Project Director Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org \n  \n
