SUMMARY:Volunteer in Arrow Rock with Missouri Conservation Corps and Missouri River Bird Observatory
DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is excited to be going back to Arrow Rock Missouri this fall to improve native habitat in this picturesque and historic village in Saline County.  We will once again be partnering with Missouri River Bird Observatory\, the Arrow Rock State Historic Site\, and the Columbia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.  Our work will involve cutting and removing invasive privet on the trails used by the young summer campers during MRBO’s annual Young Explorers’ Camp.  By improving the trails\, we make it easier for the summer campers\, and the year-round trail users\, to spot birds\, discover native plants\, and enjoy the native habitat surrounding Arrow Rock. \nThis year’s volunteer workday in historic Arrow Rock takes place on Saturday\, October 25th.  Volunteers are asked to meet at 1 p.m. at the Arrow Rock Visitor Center\, 39521 Visitor Center Dr\, Arrow Rock\, MO 65320. The volunteer workday will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.  In case of rain\, we will postpone the workday to Sunday\, October 26th\, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. \nVolunteers will learn to identify and remove invasive privet using hand saws and loppers.  Please bring gloves\, a reusable water bottle\, and dress appropriately for the work and for the October weather.  Missouri Conservation Corps will provide tools\, training\, plant education\, and bug spray.  We will also provide snacks for our hard-working volunteers. \nFor our younger volunteers\, MRBO and MCC will host an educational event for children.  A parent or guardian must accompany children participating in the volunteer work day. \nFor more information\, or to sign up for this unique volunteer experience\, please contact Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org \nCome and join us on October 25th in the beautiful village of Arrow Rock to improve native habitat and help out our friends at Missouri River Bird Observatory and Arrow Rock State Historic Site!

SUMMARY:Volunteer to Remove Honeysuckle in Florissant on National Public Lands Day!
DESCRIPTION:Volunteers are needed to remove invasive bush honeysuckle from the Hall’s Ferry unit of the Big Muddy National Fish & Wildlife Refuge. This area has significant ecological and historical value\, and you can help conserve and maintain this unit on Saturday\, September 27th from 8 am – 12 pm as part of U.S Fish & Wildlife Service’s National Public Lands Day. \nVolunteers will be carpooling to the work site\, as there is very limited parking along the road by the unit. Please meet at the parking lot just off of New Halls Ferry Road. Note: this lot belongs to the Augustine Institute\, which is not affiliated with this project\, so do not continue down or park on their main campus. \nWhat to Expect \nVolunteers will cut honeysuckle with hand saws or loppers and hand-pull smaller plants. Event hosts and willing volunteers will then apply herbicide to cut stumps to prevent re-growth. All tools\, materials\, and booklets on identifying invasive honeysuckle versus native species will be provided. A small-scale trash and litter pick-up will also take place. \nVolunteers will need to wear weather-appropriate clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty\, sturdy boots or closed-toe shoes\, a hat\, and sunscreen. Volunteers should also bring a reusable water bottle and a snack\, insect repellent (if preferred)\, and sturdy gloves (if you prefer your own\, but gloves will also be provided). SUMMARY:Volunteer Honeysuckle Removal Event at Boone County Nature School
DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps and the Boone County Nature School are teaming up to remove invasive honeysuckle and restore native habitat at the Boone County Nature School\, 8989 South Tom Bass Road\, Columbia\, MO on Tuesday\, May 20th.  This event will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will involve cutting\, hacking and pulling invasive honeysuckle and autumn olive.  Parking is available in the main parking lot next to the main school building.  Work will be done around a large oak tree west of the school building\, a five minute hiking from the parking area.  As always\, Missouri Conservation Corps will provide the tools\, training\, gloves and cold water for this event…volunteers are encouraged to wear clothing appropriate for working in a forested\, brushy environment and to bring a reusable water bottle.  For more information\, or to register for this event\, contact Project Director Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org

DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is organizing its second honeysuckle cutting event of 2025 on Saturday\, March 22nd in Columbia’s Garth Nature Area\, 2799 North Garth.  Volunteers will be cutting\, hacking and pulling invasive honeysuckle in this 52-acre park in north Columbia.  This volunteer event will also feature a family-friendly educational opportunity with Missouri Conservation Corps educator Laura Semken. \n\nOn Saturday\, March 22nd\, Missouri Conservation Corps is collaborating with educator Laura Semken to bring an interactive learning experience to Garth Nature Area. SUMMARY:Flat Branch Creek Cleanup on the MKT Trail
DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is hosting its first creek cleanup on Columbia’s Flat Branch Creek on Sunday\, March 9th.  The cleanup will take place between MKT Trail bridges #2 and #3\, and volunteers are asked to meet in Grasslands Park\, 21 East Clarkson Road.  Missouri Conservation Corps and Missouri Stream Team will provide the gloves and trash bags\, and volunteers are asked to wear sturdy boots and clothing appropriate to the weather.  If you have waterproof boots or waders\, those will help us get into the deeper portions of the creek to remove trash and debris. \nThe creek cleanup will run from 1-3 p.m.\, followed by a social event in the park from 3-4 p.m. with hot cocoa and maybe even some sunshine!  Join us on Sunday\, March 9th in Columbia’s Grasslands Park for our first volunteer event of the year\, and a chance to clean up one of Columbia’s most cherished watersheds! \nFor more information on this event\, or to register for this event\, contact Missouri Conservation Corps Project Director Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org \n

SUMMARY:Winter Tree Care Event in the Ridgeway Neighborhood
DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is hosting a unique volunteer event on Friday\, November 29th.  We are teaming up with the Ridgeway Neighborhood Association\, Volunteer Columbia\, and the Columbia Tree Board to install protective cages around the newly planted trees on the corner of Garth and Sexton. \nThis event will run from 1 p.m until 4 p.m.\, and volunteers can park in the large parking lot between Sexton Road and the Centro Latino building.   Follow the VOLUNTEER signs to our work location\, west of the parking lot. \nThis festive neighborhood volunteer event will take place on Friday\, November 29th\, from 1-4 p.m. on the southwest corner of Garth and Sexton\, in central Columbia.  Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather and to bring a pair of work gloves.  Hot cocoa and hot cider will be served\, and you are free to bring a mug and fill it up with a hot drink while we work on the trees. \nTo sign up for this community volunteer event\, contact Missouri Conservation Corps Project Director Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org
