DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is organizing its second honeysuckle cutting event of 2025 on Saturday\, March 22nd in Columbia’s Garth Nature Area\, 2799 North Garth.  Volunteers will be cutting\, hacking and pulling invasive honeysuckle in this 52-acre park in north Columbia.  This volunteer event will also feature a family-friendly educational opportunity with Missouri Conservation Corps educator Laura Semken. \n\nOn Saturday\, March 22nd\, Missouri Conservation Corps is collaborating with educator Laura Semken to bring an interactive learning experience to Garth Nature Area. Geared for learners in the 6 years and up range\, this educational segment will teach young learners about the importance of healthy native habitats for migratory birds.\n\n\nYoungsters and their families are encouraged to attend\, and learners under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.\n\nThis event will take place in Garth Nature Area\, and volunteers will have the option of starting honeysuckle removal immediately with a team\, or staying to learn about migratory birds with Laura and her volunteers.\n\nVolunteers can meet in the parking area of Garth Nature Area\, and we will walk to our work site in the park.  Just like all our events\, Missouri Conservation Corps will provide the tools\, training and gloves for this event.  Volunteers will need to wear sturdy footwear\, dress for the weather\, and bring a water bottle. \nTo register for this event\, or to learn more about our events in Columbia’s parks and green spaces\, contact Missouri Conservation Corps Project Director Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org. SUMMARY:Flat Branch Creek Cleanup on the MKT Trail
DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is hosting its first creek cleanup on Columbia’s Flat Branch Creek on Sunday\, March 9th.  The cleanup will take place between MKT Trail bridges #2 and #3\, and volunteers are asked to meet in Grasslands Park\, 21 East Clarkson Road.  Missouri Conservation Corps and Missouri Stream Team will provide the gloves and trash bags\, and volunteers are asked to wear sturdy boots and clothing appropriate to the weather.  If you have waterproof boots or waders\, those will help us get into the deeper portions of the creek to remove trash and debris. \nThe creek cleanup will run from 1-3 p.m.\, followed by a social event in the park from 3-4 p.m. with hot cocoa and maybe even some sunshine!  Join us on Sunday\, March 9th in Columbia’s Grasslands Park for our first volunteer event of the year\, and a chance to clean up one of Columbia’s most cherished watersheds! \nFor more information on this event\, or to register for this event\, contact Missouri Conservation Corps Project Director Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org \n

DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps will be teaming up with Missouri River Relief on Sunday\, November 10th to cut and remove invasive honeysuckle on Columbia’s MKT Trail. \nVolunteers can meet at 10 a.m. at the MLK Jr. Memorial on the MKT Trail\, 800 West Stadium Boulevard.  We will be cutting\, treating and removing invasive honeysuckle on the MKT trail.  Volunteers will help us beautify this portion of Columbia’s MKT trail\, which restoring native habitat to central Columbia! \nMissouri River Relief and Missouri Conservation Corps will supply hot cocoa and snacks to our volunteers.  Volunteers will need to dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear.  Missouri Conservation Corps will supply the tools\, gloves and training.

SUMMARY:Bonnie View Nature Area Work Day with Columbia Audubon Society
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 12th Missouri Conservation Corps is collaborating with Columbia Audubon Society\, Columbia Parks and Rec\, and Wild Ones to host a volunteer work day in Columbia’s Bonnie View Nature Sanctuary.  This free volunteer event will run from 9 a.m. until noon and will involve invasive species removal and habitat restoration at the Bonnie View Nature Sanctuary\, 3300 West Rollins Road.  We will be cutting invasive honeysuckle\, autumn olive\, and multiflora rose in this 90 acre public park and nature sanctuary on the west side of Columbia. \nMissouri Conservation Corps and Columbia Audubon Society will provide gloves\, tools\, bug spray and training.  Volunteers are asked to bring a re-usable water bottle and to wear long pants and sturdy shoes\, as much of our work will be done in brushy\, thorny areas of the park.  Training and direction will be provided to volunteers at 9 a.m. at the shelter near the parking area.  Missouri Conservation Corps will also supply cold water\, and pizza will be served after the work ends at noon! \nFor more information or to register for this event\, please contact Missouri Conservation Corps Project Director Stephen Bybee at stephen@missouriconservationcorps.org \n
