SUMMARY:Invasive Species Removal and Cemetery Cleanup at Alspaugh Park
DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps will be joining CoMo Preservation and the Genealogical Society of Boone County and Central Missouri for a joint work event in Alspaugh Park on Saturday\, May 2nd\, from 8 – 10 am. As we work to remove invasive species\, CoMo Preservation and the Genealogical Society will be cleaning up two historic cemeteries in the park. This is a unique opportunity to restore the native habitat and learn about the history in Alspaugh Park.\n\nParking is available in the gravel lot off of Mexico Gravel Rd\, at the bottom of the hill. If navigating by maps\, use address 4100 Mexico Gravel Rd. Tools and training will be provided\, and a port-a-potty will be available for use. Volunteers are encouraged to wear outdoor and weather appropriate footwear and clothing\, and to bring a reusable water bottle. DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is organizing a volunteer honeysuckle cutting event on Monday\, May 4th\, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. in Columbia’s Garth Nature Area\, 2799 North Garth Ave. Volunteers will be cutting\, hacking and pulling invasive honeysuckle in this 52-acre park in central Columbia. \nVolunteers can meet in the parking area\, and we will walk to our work site in the park. Just like all our events\, Missouri Conservation Corps will provide the tools\, training\, and gloves for this event. DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps and the Columbia Audubon Society will be hosting their fourth annual guided bird hike on THURSDAY\, May 7th from 7 – 9 am at Kiwanis Park (E). Meet us at the Thurston Shelter on the East side of Kiwanis Park (1001 Maplewood Dr) for an early morning hike as we look for and record the different species of birds we spot this spring! \nParticipants are encouraged to wear outdoor and weather appropriate clothing and to bring a reusable water bottle. SUMMARY:Replant & Restore Tree Planting on N 8th Street
DESCRIPTION:Help plant 12 new trees in the backyards of 305 – 311 N 8th Street on Sunday\, May 17th at 9 am! This Love Your Block project seeks to bring trees back to this neighborhood and help restore the community benefits trees provide. Volunteers will be digging holes\, planting 3- to 5-gallon trees and shrubs\, and helping mulch and wrap the new plants. Parking will be available at the Armory Sports Center parking lot and along adjacent streets\, and food will be provided at noon. DESCRIPTION:Missouri Conservation Corps is bringing a community tree event to the Benton-Stephens neighborhood this spring! On Monday\, May 18th\, join Missouri Conservation Corps and your Benton-Stephens neighbors in Erin Wagoner’s backyard\, 1409 Pratt Street. We will be giving a tree-planting demonstration in Erin’s backyard\, and we will also be signing up neighbors for free Missouri native trees. The purpose of our event is to bolster the urban canopy in Columbia\, and to help neighbors access free trees for their yards. \nThis event runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the backyard of 1409 Pratt St. Come join us to learn more about the importance of trees in our urban environment\, to learn proper tree planting techniques\, and to sign up for a free tree for your yard!
