About the Event

Missouri Conservation Corps is organizing its second honeysuckle cutting event of 2025 on Saturday, March 22nd in Columbia’s Garth Nature Area, 2799 North Garth.  Volunteers will be cutting, hacking and pulling invasive honeysuckle in this 52-acre park in north Columbia.  This volunteer event will also feature a family-friendly educational opportunity with Missouri Conservation Corps educator Laura Semken.

On Saturday, March 22nd, Missouri Conservation Corps is collaborating with educator Laura Semken to bring an interactive learning experience to Garth Nature Area. Geared for learners in the 6 years and up range, this educational segment will teach young learners about the importance of healthy native habitats for migratory birds.
Youngsters and their families are encouraged to attend, and learners under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
This event will take place in Garth Nature Area, and volunteers will have the option of starting honeysuckle removal immediately with a team, or staying to learn about migratory birds with Laura and her volunteers.

Volunteers can meet in the parking area of Garth Nature Area, and we will walk to our work site in the park.  Just like all our events, Missouri Conservation Corps will provide the tools, training and gloves for this event.  Volunteers will need to wear sturdy footwear, dress for the weather, and bring a water bottle.
