RESCHEDULED Creek Week: Historic Wells & Springs Tour
About the Event
On Thursday, June 25th, local historian and Historic Preservation Commission President Stephen Bybee will take participants on a walking tour of downtown Columbia. Focusing on early industry and community water sources in this 200-year-old city, Bybee will lead the group to various sites in Columbia that once featured mineral springs, wells, cisterns, and early livery stables, flouring mills and blacksmith shops.
Participants will meet on the bridge in Flat Branch Park at 6 p.m. The tour will last approximately one hour and will meander from the bridge in Flat Branch Park, to the historic Tiger Hotel, from Peace Park to the historic corner of Ninth and Cherry Street. The tour will largely be confined to sidewalks, streets, and alleyways, but there is an optional walk across a grassy slope on the MU campus.
