Volunteer in Arrow Rock with Missouri Conservation Corps and Missouri River Bird Observatory
About the Event
Missouri Conservation Corps is excited to be going back to Arrow Rock Missouri this fall to improve native habitat in this picturesque and historic village in Saline County. We will once again be partnering with Missouri River Bird Observatory, the Arrow Rock State Historic Site, and the Columbia Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Our work will involve cutting and removing invasive privet on the trails used by the young summer campers during MRBO’s annual Young Explorers’ Camp. By improving the trails, we make it easier for the summer campers, and the year-round trail users, to spot birds, discover native plants, and enjoy the native habitat surrounding Arrow Rock.
This year’s volunteer workday in historic Arrow Rock takes place on Saturday, October 25th. Volunteers are asked to meet at 1 p.m. at the Arrow Rock Visitor Center, 39521 Visitor Center Dr, Arrow Rock, MO 65320. The volunteer workday will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. In case of rain, we will postpone the workday to Sunday, October 26th, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Volunteers will learn to identify and remove invasive privet using hand saws and loppers. Please bring gloves, a reusable water bottle, and dress appropriately for the work and for the October weather. Missouri Conservation Corps will provide tools, training, plant education, and bug spray. We will also provide snacks for our hard-working volunteers.
For our younger volunteers, MRBO and MCC will host an educational event for children. A parent or guardian must accompany children participating in the volunteer work day.
